Lasting Powers of Attorney
Making a Lasting Power of Attorney is a straightforward process, provided the person making it fully understands it. We provide a friendly, professional, fixed fee service, including 2 consultations, completion of all appropriate forms, provision of the vital certificate of understanding and registration. We can meet with you at our offices or we can come and see you at home or in hospital, at your convenience.
A Lasting Power of Attorney is a document which allows another trusted person (or people) to act for you and make decisions for you ONLY when you are unable to do so yourself. Lasting Powers of Attorney are useful:
- If you suffer from a long term illness which affects your ability to think and remember clearly and make decisions for yourself.
- If you have an accident and are temporarily unable to make decisions for yourself – you may be in hospital or in a coma.
- If you own your own business it is imperative you have in place a Lasting Power of Attorney so that your workforce, rent and insurance premiums are paid and to ensure business continuity.
Age is irrelevant when making a Lasting Power of Attorney. If you do not make a Lasting Power of Attorney BEFORE you have lost your ability to make decisions for yourself, your family are likely to have to apply to the Court for the appointment of a Deputy – this may not be the person you would choose yourself and can lead to upset and difficulties within your family.
Our charges are likely to be between £450 and £1,000 plus VAT depending on whether you are single or a couple, whether you want to register your powers of attorney. The Office of the Public Guardian charges £82 (no VAT) for registration of one LPA.
